If you desire the services of the Public Defender, you must complete an application at the Court office. If you are approved, there is usually a fee of $200.00 charged to you. This amount should be paid in full prior to your appearance in court.
FAQ’s: How do I pay my ticket without getting points?
You must enter a plea of not guilty to the charges by calling the court office. Once you get your new court date, you must appear and speak with the prosecutor on the day of court. What if my ticket says I don’t have to appear? Can’t the points just be taken off without having to come to court? No. If you just pay the ticket, the Motor Vehicle Commission will assess points. The Court Administrator does not have the authority to amend complaints; only the Judge can change the violation. In order for the Judge to change the violation, you must be present in court. How do I find out if there will be points assessed against me? Points are not assessed by the Municipal Court but by the Motor Vehicle Commission. You can go to the N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission web site @ www.state.nj.us/mvc/.. This Web site can give you information regarding points, motor vehicle office locations, hours and surcharges. What if my ticket doesn’t say how much it is on the back? Go to www.njmcdirect.com or call this office and the staff will give you the information. I went to the Motor Vehicle Web site and can’t find out how much my ticket is.Is there someplace else I can look? www.judiciary.state.nj.us/mcs/ This will bring you right to the Municipal Court section where you can look up information. Or, you can always call the court office during regular business hours and speak to a live person. I want to sign a complaint against someone who is harassing me. What do I do? As long as the person you are charging is an adult, you come to the Municipal Court Office with that person’s name and address. You will be given forms to fill out. At that time, Court staff will give you additional information. After the complaint is signed, you will have to come to Court. What if I want to charge someone with not doing work that was paid for? This is a civil matter. Directions to Tuckerton Court: From the north: Garden State Parkway to Exit 58. At the top of the exit, turn left onto Route 539 South. *Go 3.3 miles to the third traffic light (Route 9 or East Main Street--Ocean East Buffet across from you on the left & WaWa on the right). At the traffic light, turn left. Approximately 1 block up on right is the Borough Hall (between Wood Funeral Home and Wachovia Bank). If you come to the churches, you have gone too far. From the South: Garden State Parkway to Exit 58. At the top of the exit, turn right onto Route 539 South. Follow from *above. From the West: Take Route 539 to the Route 9 traffic light. After crossing over the Garden State Parkway, follow directions from *above.
