John Schwartz received a call from Tim Hart, Business Director of the Tuckerton Seaport, as he is setting up a meeting with a representative from Saxton’s Office and Genevive Boehm Clifton, from the NJDOT, Office of Maritime Resources to discuss the grant they are not using. The Seaport cannot match the funds, a condition of receiving these monies, and therefore looking into the possibility of transferring the grant to the Waterways Commission for Dredging Purposes. He will be in touch concerning the details. Since Waterways is pursuing the same goals as the original purpose, navigation of waterways, dredging, transit slips and bulkheading, the possibility of obtaining this transfer of Grant, secured from the Department of Environmental Protection, may be a positive note.
John suggested obtaining three estimates from contractors regarding cost for the project. A breakdown of specific jobs will be necessary. A copy of the report from Birdsall Engineering will be given to each company.
John spoke to Borough Council explaining we need to spend the $200,000 prior to receiving the grant money. Their reply was that this amount could be bonded. There are major impacts from the Lagoons and Thompsons Creek on Tuckerton Borough. A designated site for dredge materials must be decided upon as well.
Mike Save explained that it is necessary to specify the amount of materials being dredged within the contract. We need to contact Birdsall Engineering for advice on this matter. The contractor will estimate the amount, however we may be billed additional charges for actual excesses.
Mike Savage has been in contact with Marine Police concerning Tuckerton Creek. They have begun putting in markers, starting in Cape May. They are willing to help us putting signs at the mouth of the creek, “Approaching No Wake Zone”, and will look into additional spots to place markers. They suggested placing notices around the Marinas that all of Tuckerton Creek is NO WAKE ZONE!!! Notifying newspapers as well, showing this message is coming from the Marine Police will serve to educate the public. Mike will talk to them about speed zones and will keep all Waterways Members informed through e-mail correspondence.
John Schwartz reminded Members that we are still looking for one more person to join our team.
